Description:

The swing bar hardness test is an international general method for testing the coating film hardness in the coating industry. Its principle is to support two stainless steel balls on the swing bar hardness tester on the dried coating and swing in a certain period. If the coating surface is softer, the swing spoke of the swing bar will decay faster (the shorter the swing time from one angle to another); On the contrary, the slower the attenuation.

There are three different types of pendulum: double pendulum, K Ö nig single pendulum and Persoz single pendulum. It is worth noting that there is no conversion relationship between the test results of the swing bar with different structure, mass, size and period, because the interaction between the swing bar and the coating also depends on the complex elasticity and viscosity of the coating. Therefore, when measuring the damping time of a certain paint film in the product standard, only one swing rod is required.

In addition, in order to obtain a reliable test data, the test should be carried out under the condition of controlling temperature and humidity without the influence of air flow, and the film thickness and substrate material can also affect the damping time.
